This book tells the story of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church from its beginnings in 1932 to the present. The story includes a number of themes that identify St. Nicholas as uniquie among the Orthodox Churches in Melbourne.

• The first of these tells how the first wave settlers, who came to Australia in the 1880’s and 1890’s, maintained their faith before the arrival of their first priest and the founding of St. Nicolas in 1932.
• The second theme focuses on the role of St. Nicholas in fostering pan-Orthodoxy among the Russian and other Orthodox Communities in Melbourne.
• The third is the assistance given by the Church to the thousands of immigrants of all faiths from Lebanon and elsewhere in the Middle East.
• Fourth, are the contributions of the Bishops who have led the Church for the last 38 years.
• The fifth theme covers the ways in which the St. Nicholas faithful have, in their religious, social and cultural lives, been both Orthodox and Australian.
• Finally, St. Nicholas has provided a pathway and a welcoming home to those seeing understanding and experience of Orthodoxy.

The final chapter provides a chronology of the major events and people in the life of the Church.

This work will be absorbing reading for the wider Eastern Orthodox Church as it is telling a story which will be familiar to them. Students of religion will also find much to interest them in this account of the religious settlement in Victoria of a small group of Christians from one of the oldest Christian churches in the world.
