Details

The triennial international conference “Prayer and Spirituality in the Early Church” is hosted by the Centre for Early Christian Studies, Australian Catholic University, and was first held in Melbourne in 1996. Each volume of this ongoing series contains selected conference papers from international and Australian contributors.

The papers in this book demonstrate the enduring value of the early church to the current movement towards increased communio between the different branches of Christianity and to contemporary spiritual and ecclesiastical life. The overarching theme is continuity - continuity between the present, past and future. The blurred boundaries between Christianity, Judaism and paganism, and between various forms of Christianity is another theme that weaves its way throughout. The link between liturgy and spirituality is also explored.

The papers are presented in 7 sections: The Foundations, Prayer and Spirituality, Accessing the Divine, On the Fringe, Reinterpreting the Tradition, Pastor and Bishop and Living Spirituality.
