Quick Overview

Within every heart is a hidden garden. We can neglect it until the weeds take over and the flowers wither and die. Or, with the help of Christ, we can care for it and make it a place of beauty, grace, and joy.

This charming parable will encourage children (and adults) to open the gate to Christ and tend the garden of their heart with loving care.

About the author

Jane G Meyer is a children’s book author and editor who lives in Santa Barbara, California, with her husband and children. She loves the outdoors, and spends some time each day in her garden, where she especially likes to cheer along her many fruit trees. She finds that her garden teaches her many spiritual lessons and provides a peaceful backdrop for prayer and reflection. More than any gardening dream, Jane hopes children will tend their hearts and minds well, spreading joy and beauty every day to those around them. She is also the author of The Life of St. Brigid (Conciliar Press, 2009), The Woman and the Wheat (Saint Vladimir's Seminary Press, 2009), and The Man and the Vine (Saint Vladimir Seminary Press, 2006).

About the illustrator

Masha Lobastov is an award-winning artist who is classically educated and trained in Russia and the U.S. She graduated with honors from the prestigious Russian State Humanitarian University, which gave her profound knowledge of art, history, and culture. Masha mainly focuses on figurative art and portraiture, contemplating and uncovering internal beauty within every human element. Working with oils on colored canvases, she creates the “window” within a painting, similar to what we see in a fogged mirror: a path that leads the eye into someone else’s world: pure and unspoiled, sometimes emotional or complex, with crystal clear colors and details.
